Before
leaving Oxford, participants at the first Seatrade Cruise Academy's
course decided to form an Alumnus Association, as a means of staying
in touch, not only with each other, but also with those who attend
future courses.
An
Alumnus e-group has been set up, which also allows members to
keep in contact easily and discuss industry news and gossip.
Enrolments
have included participants from Australia, Argentina, Singapore,
Egypt and the Caribbean, as well as from Europe and North America.
Dover Cruise Port's John Turgoose was elected inaugural president
of the association, with P&O Cruises' Linda Hess as vice president.
The secretariat for the association is provided by the Seatrade
Cruise Academy.
Quote
from the President:
"
One of the benefits of attending the Seatrade Cruise Academy is
getting to know the other students on the course - all of whom
have an interest in the cruise industry. But it goes further than
that - attendance at the course entitles students to become members
of the Cruise Academy Alumni Association. This enables students
to keep in touch, not only by e-mail, but also by attendance at
meetings of the Alumni Association.
These
meetings are open to all members of the Alumni Association from
every course. All the students have gone through the same learning
"experience" and will share exchange stories, especially about
cruise itinerary planning. This provides a network of contacts
in the industry and as time goes by, many of the students will
rise to positions of greater influence.
Alumni
gatherings take place at Seatrade conferences at Miami, in Europe,
South America and Asia. There are occasional impromptu gatherings,
such as a lunch on board a cruise ship in Miami. Many members
keep in contact and ask each other for advice on specific problems
as their experience and exposure to the industry grows."

Turgoose, General Manager, Shipping Dover Habour Board.

"In
this relaxed and marine atmosphere with a beautiful view over
Miami Beach, I enjoyed talking to my fellow friends in this most
interesting cruise market. The new friends and contacts I have
made since my participation on Seatrades Cruise Academy
has definitely increased my marine marketing horizon!" Leon
Schulz, Marketing Consultant, AB Stephan R G Örn.
